Students in Mrs. Castellano's classes participated in the Martin J. Kelly Writing Contest held annually by the Irish Cultural Society of the Garden City Area and sponsored by The H.W. Wilson Foundation. According to the organization's website, this year's contest would "challenge students to write an essay in which the writer identifies himself/herself through references to indicators or emblems of the writer’s heritage or interests." This year, Sophomore Kaylee White won first prize and will be honored at an awards ceremony on May 15th. Honorable mentions were awarded to Freshman Nicole Arnell and Sophomores Madalyn Damato and Sara Pittman. The Annual Writing Contest is named in honor of the late Martin J. Kelly, a founding member and past president of the society who passed away in 2015.
